Australian hospitals and clinics have access to some of the best clinicians and technology in the world, however, worldwide there is a healthcare divide in terms of tools that paediatric nurses and midwives can access. In these areas, assessment skills become crucial in order to best provide care to our youngest patients.
This session will provide a basic overview of paediatric health globally and we will consider how various settings can teach us and remind us about basic assessment, management and early detection of the sick paediatric patient. We will explore some of the disease processes that are becoming more apparent to particular groups of people in particular settings and consider why this is important to understand. At the end of the session, we will also discuss fluid management in paediatric patients and why management and documentation is so important.
In this video learning activity, you will:
- Develop a global overview of paediatric health and understand the reasons for the significant differences in paediatric health outcomes
- Define cultural understanding in the current climate of our “global village”
- Recognise the importance of understanding paediatric disease and illness-specific to the context of where you are working
- Gain an understanding of the importance of fluid management in all paediatric settings, particularly in the context of sepsis
This learning activity is one hour in duration. 1 hour of active learning = 1 CPD hour
You will receive a certificate after completing a short quiz to use in your professional development portfolio.
